Less than a week to go...

One week from today, I will be in Corpus Christi, Texas at Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital, starting my first travel nurse assignment. Derrick and Andrew will be on the road with The Baroness and the two kitties (hopefully with a minimum of catterwauling!).  There is still lots to do, but we have been busy "customizing" our 10 year old (but new to us) RV to get it ready for this adventure.

The first order of business was to make Derrick an office.  He will continue to work for Domo, just fewer hours and remotely, of course.  The motorhome was equipped with a desk, of sorts, when we bought it.  This is what it looked like before.  You can see the diagonal oak desk in the corner.

This is what it looks like NOW after Derrick renovated it to fit his work style:

He covered the place directly behind the chair (where he had to cut the diagonal desk out) with a thin piece of wood and then a corkboard to give himself a place to tack notes.  The large bottom drawer holds printers (it has a slide out shelf).  He added a plug underneath the desk, so now it has two outlets and two USB ports.  He also added two additional USB charging ports by the table.  Pretty impressive!

Next, was what to do with the dreaded kitty litter box.  We CAN'T leave these guys behind!

Cause when a cat's gotta poop, a cat's gotta poop.  Right?  So, we came up with a solution we liked (after ruling out putting it in the shower, in front of the driver's seat, in front of the washer, etc.).

We have a really large closet in this rig.  It's way bigger than we need for clothes that need to be hung up.  So, Derrick built a kitty litter enclosure that is big enough for their litter box.  It has a "shelf" on top that in enclosed for an extra bag of litter, the scoop, disposing bags and an air freshener.  Still plenty of room in the closet for our stuff.  Now, before all you NON-cat people start gagging, rest assured it will be cleaned a couple of times a day and our stuff will be separated from it.  So, it's all good.  We can close the door on it completely if need be, or leave it open enough for them to get in and out.  It's easy to clean and we still have access to the washer hook-up next to it.

So, that's enough for now - more to come, though as we share our adventure preparations.

Finally, here's my travel quote of the day:

"Travel as much as you can, as far as you can, for as long as you can.  Life is not meant to be lived in one place."
